About Mid-Island Métis Nation
Mid Island Métis Nation Programs & Services
The Mid Island Métis Nation community office is here to assist our Métis people in various ways. We can:
- Help you obtain Métis Citizenship at the local and provincial level
- Assist in genealogical research
- Direct you towards resources for employment, training, and entrepreneurship
- Provide information about Métis culture and history
MIMN sends out a weekly newsletter to keep our members up to date on news and events, and we hold a monthly community meeting on the last Tuesday of each month.
We also have a variety of Métis cultural items for sale, and a small library of Métis related books that are available to borrow.
Current Financial & Fundraising Model
The Mid Island Métis Nation is funded primarily through grants, which vary from year to year. Some of our regular funders include:
- Métis Nation of BC
- Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA)’s Aboriginal Health Initiative Plan (AHIP)
- Vancouver Island University’s Hwulmuxw Mustimuxw Siiem (HMS)
- City of Nanaimo
We also do various fundraisers throughout the year, such as raffles and 50/50 draws at our community meetings and events.
The Mid Island Métis Nation is a Chartered Community of Métis Nation BC, the official governing organization for Métis in British Columbia.
