Joy Bremner (President)
Joy Bremner is Cree Metis born in Prince Albert Saskachewan, of Cree descent from the Red River Settlement, has lived throughout her life across much of Canada from Bear Creek in the Yukon, Sooke on Vancouver Island and in numerous towns and cities across the prairies all the way east to Ottawa. Joy is currently in her third consecutive term as President of the Mid Island Metis Nation, she held a position on the board of the MIMN in the mid nineties and sat as a representative on the Aboriginal Education Committee in the Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools then and 2013-2015. Joy holds positions on local, regional and provincial governance assembly/councils with the Metis Nation of British Columbia. A strong commitment to improving and supporting healthy success is an integral part of her commitment to the health & growth of children, families and the Metis Community.
Scott Bradford (Vice President)
Scott was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario with deep Metis roots that trace back directly to Louis Riel and Red River. Scott has 30 years experience running organizations and serving his community. Scott lived in Ottawa for 20 years running one of Ottawa’s largest youth-serving agencies, and recently moved to Nanaimo to lead the Nanaimo Child Development Centre. He holds and MBA and is recipient of the Queens Diamond Jubilee medal as well as the United Way Community Builder Award. Scott is an experienced back country canoeist and loves living in Canada’s most incredible regions – beautiful Vancouver Island.
Chris Cathers (Director)
Chris Cathers is a localy born and raised Nanaimoite where he is fortunate to have lived all his life. Cathers Metis lineage is from his father and grandmother who was born in the Duck Lake region of Saskatchewan. Chris is an entrepreneur in Nanaimo where he runs a marketing and media company called Evolution Business Media Group and a tourism company providing camper van rentals and tours, Van Ventures Rentals. Also, when Chris isnt running his business he volunteers in the community in various capacities. He recently was awarded a Top 20 Under 40 Award, recognized for contributions in business and community. His most proudest accomplishments include his beautiful family, partner Ember Cathers, and daughter Arabella and Hudson, who he shares lots of adventures with.
